Lesson 2

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It is a foundation of data communication for the Internet.
WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. It is used to access the Internet over mobile phones via a wireless network.

3G stands for 3G or 3rd generation mobile telecommunications is a generation of standards for mobile phones and mobile telecommunication services fulfilling the International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) specifications by the International Telecommunication Union. Application services include wide-area wireless voice telephone, mobile Internet access, video calls and mobile TV, all in a mobile environment.

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. It’s a way of sending multimedia messages to and from mobiles, mainly pictures are sent using this system.

GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. It is a packet oriented mobile data service in 2G and 3G cellular communication systems. GPRS was originally standardized by European Telecommunications Standards Institute in response to the earlier CDPD and i-mode packet-switched cellular technologies. It is now maintained by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

Bluetooth is a proprietary open wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band from 2400–2480 MHz) from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks (PANs) with high levels of security. Created by telecoms vendor Ericsson in 1994,[1] it was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization.

ADSL stands for Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) is a type of digital subscriber line technology, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voice band modem can provide. It does this by utilizing frequencies that are not used by a voice telephone call.  A splitter, or DSL filter, allows a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL service and voice calls at the same time.

Broadband refers to the telecommunications signal or a device with a greater bandwidth, in some sense, than other standard signals or devices. It can be used in both Telecommunications, computer networks, in videos and in Internet access.

VOIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a way of communicating over the Internet, either visually or verbally without using a landline, it is cheap and easy to use and all that is needed is access to the Internet.
